New Music Mix_3.7.13

Music Experience III

I know I haven’t been posting on here much but I’ve been so busy with work, kids and my other blogs that I sometimes forget. But I am STILL listening to a LOT of music and here is 1 music mix that I created just today for your listening amusement. Most of these songs have come to me either via ITunes, through movies or television (Joe Walsh’s “Funk 50” was used in Californication last week, Cocteau Twins made an appearance in “The Perks Of Being A Wallflower”) or just a need to hear them again (Puscifer, Bonham, Ultravox).

Nashville Benefit Concert_12.5.10

On Sunday night, I was dragged invited by my friends to join them at a Holiday Benefit Concert for The Literacy Council in Nashville, TN. After a long week of work, really the last thing I wanted to do was go sit in a club and listen to loud rock music, but I did go and I am really glad I did!

First off…here was the lineup…

* Vinny Appice (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, HEAVEN & HELL) Drums
* Carlos Cavazo (QUIET RIOT, RATT) – Guitar
* Scott Warren (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, HEAVEN & HELL) – Keyboards
* Chas West (JASON BONHAM) – Vocals

With Special Guests:
* Kip Winger (WINGER)
* Mark Slaughter (SLAUGHTER)
* Kenny Olson (Kid Rock)
* John Jorgenson (THE DESERT ROSE BAND)

Now…I don’t know much about individual musicians, I’m more of a “like to listen to rock music, don’t know much about it” sorta guy…but I gotta tell you, I got to meet some of the guys here and it was WAY cool! First off, the set list. It was billed as a “half-hour acoustic/electro set (a la LED ZEPPELIN).” What it turned into was a greatest hits JAM by some of the best rock performers from the 80’s and more! They performed an onslaught of hits that included “Whole Lotta Love” and “Rock N Roll” by Zep, but also proceeded to roll into a mosh of amazing rock hits from the mid to late 80’s that included Whitesnake’s “Still of the Night” (my personal favorite), “Bang Your Head” & “Cmon Feel The Noize” by Quiet Riot, “Rainbow In The Dark” & “The Last In Line” by Dio and “Wait For You” by Bonham! Toss in a few Sabbath songs that I recognized but don’t really know the names of and it was an evening of some amazing classic rock songs! And lead singer Chas West, with his mic swinging and hair flying, was AMAZING on vocals!

Considering how small the venue was, it was hard NOT to get close to everyone and the meet & greet after the show had me introducing myself to Rudy Sarzo, Kip Winger, Mark Slaughter, Vinny Appice and Kenny Olson, who I had an extended conversation with and he seems like a really cool dude! So anyway…it really was an unexpected night of highlights and I doubt I’ll ever get a chance to meet so many rock icons in one place ever again. So thanks to my road wife Joel for dragging my butt along. I hate to admit it…but he was right about this one. It WAS an awesome night! And now I’ll be hearing about it from him for a very long time…lol

Me with my buds, Rudy Sarzo & Kenny Olson!
